Core mechanic / Operations interview

Free core game

Priority Trap

Order real work under a capacity budget, dependency chains and conflicting executive instructions, then see how the room scores productivity and politics.

Last reviewed 2026-10-26

The Priority Trap gives the player a production outage, a mandatory culture workshop, an executive email, a wellness objective and an impossible deadline. The player orders the work. Dependencies must come first, critical work must fit inside the capacity budget, and political cost is measured separately.

There is more than one viable strategy. The objective is a dependency-safe sequence that handles the critical work; the fictional company also judges the optics, so a technically correct plan can fail because it made the wrong executive wait.

The mechanic is part of the free core game and uses only fictional tasks, budgets and executives.

What it tests

  • Dependency ordering under a hard capacity limit
  • Separating impact from urgency and political pressure
  • Making a defensible tradeoff when not everything can be done
